Lyndon B. Johnson, then Senate Majority Leader, loses the presidential nomination of the Democratic party to Senator John F. Kennedy in 1960. Following this emotional defeat, Johnson agrees to become Kennedy???s running mate as a concession. Once the election is won, Johnson feels sidelined and under-utilized in the role of Vice President. But, everything changes when Kennedy is publicly and unexpectedly assassinated, and Johnson is quickly sworn in as President of the United States. Johnson???s wife, Lady Bird, also finds that she must immediately adapt to the role of First Lady while helping her husband navigate the challenges and politics of his new position. Johnson grapples with rivalries with Bobby Kennedy and Senator Richard Russell, all while fighting for the passage of the historic Civil Rights Act of 1964.
