Decades after facing down enemy MiG aircraft, Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is called back into action to confront a more modern threat. He assumes the role of instructing a younger team of elite U.S. Navy fighter pilots to go up against a battalion of mechanized drones that threatens to destabilize the military forces.
